Migrant workers from different Countries

Migrant worker as Domestic Helper Hong Kong has recruited migrant workers to become domestic helpers for over three decades and they are known as Foreign Domestic Helpers.

Since 80's, the first wave of migrant workers as domestic helpers came from the PhilippinesIndonesian domestic helpers were amongst the second wave since 1991 and became the second largest population. Thai and Sri Lankan helpers soon followed. In 2013, we have introduced helpers from Bangladesh and Madagascar.

Philippines

Officially known as the Republic of the Philippines  (FilipinoRepúblika ng Pilipinas), is a sovereign island country in Southeast Asia in the western Pacific Ocean. With the popultaion of more than 98 million. (12th most populated country) Its capital city is Manila. They wear the traditional clothes during ceremony or traditional events.They have higher education that they have good communication.

  • Religion - 70% are Catholic
  • Education - High education with High school and Unversity
  • Native Language is Tagalog, most of them can speak English
  • Engish alphabets is their official script

 

INDONESIAN                              

  

 

Indonesia

Officially   known  as  the   Republic   of   Indonesia (IndonesianRepublik Indonesia), is a sovereign state in Southeast Asia and OceaniaWith the popuation of more than 237 million. (4th most populated country) Its capital city is Jakarta. They wear the traditional muslim clothes in the school  and traditional events. Nowaday, only 50% of girls wear the traditional clothes. They have average education. 

 

(over 150,000 migrants already in Hong Kong) 

  • Religion - 82% Muslim
  • Education - Primary to High School (Their Government encourage their people to take high education)
  • Native Language is Bahasa, They usually can speak simple Englsih with High School level
  • Englsih Alphabets is their official script.

 

SRI LANKAN

                                    

Sri Lanka

Officially known as the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka (Tamil), is an island country in the northern Indian Ocean off the southern coast of the Indian subcontinent in South Asia. With the population of more than 20 million (57th most populated country). Its capital city is Colombo. They wear the traditional clothes during ceremony and traditional events.

(over 3,000 migrants already in Hong Kong) 

  • Religion - 80% Buddhism
  • Education - High School, most of them can communicated with English, the Government recognised English as official Language
  • Native Languages are Sihnala and Tamil
  • Tamil alphabets   is their official script

 

MALAGASY            

 

Madagascar

Officially known as the  Republic of Madagascar (MalagasyRepoblikan'i Madagasikara), is an island country in the Indian Ocean, off the southeastern coast of Africa. With the population of more than 23 million (53rd most populated country) 18% of the people live in the capital, Antananarivo. They do not have any special traditional clothes.

 

(Newly introduced in 2013, the first tide to Hong Kong had been arrived on 27 January, 2014)

  • Religion - 50% are Catholic, 40% are Christian, others are traditional beliefs
  • Education - Primary to Junior High School
  • Native Language is Malagasy, Learning French is compulsory by the Government.
  • French Alphabets are their official script

 

BANGLADESHI      

 

Bangladesh

Officially known as the People's Republic of Bangladesh (Bengali:  ), is a country in South Asia, located on the fertile Bengal deltaWith the population of more than 165 million (7th most populated country). Its capital city is Dahka. They wear the traditional clothes all the times.

(Newly introduced in 2013, over 300 migrants already in Hong Kong) 

  • Religion - 99% Muslim
  • Education - Primary school 
  • Bangali alphabets  is their official script
  • Bangladesh has a low literacy rate, estimated at 61.3% for males and 52.2% for females

Thailand

Officially known as the Kingdom of Thailand (Thai:), is a country located at the centre of the Indochina peninsula in Southeast Asia. With  the population of more than 67 million (20th most pupulated country). Its capital city is Bangkok. They wear the traditional clothes only for traditional events

Myanmar

Officially known as the Republic of the Union of Myanmar (Burma: ),  is a sovereign state in Southeast Asia bordered by Laos, Thailand, China, Bangladesh, and India.. With  the population of more than 62 million (24th most pupulated country). Its capital city is Naypyidaw, the biggest city is Yangon (Rangoon). They wear the traditional clothes only for traditional events. The Government disallowed their people to study English since 1985 until 2005.

  • Religion - 85% Buddhism
  • Education - Primany to High School.
  • Burmese alphabets   is their official script
